bar

The Jefco AeroMod'lers and Colorado Rotor-Heads 10th annual Heli Fun Fly on May 15th 2010 was a great success, with 44 registered pilots, over 100 helis, and 200 spectators in attendance. The weather was nearly picture perfect, despite a noontime shower, but everyone had a great time. Pilots were challenged with exciting events this year: Pad Hop, Heli Rodeo, Autorotation Contest, and Drag Racing. I'd like to thank our sponsors and everyone in the club for their efforts in making this year's event fun and exciting for all. We had a great turn out, with an amazing array of models. Please remember to support our event sponsors who graciously donated items for our raffle and event prizes. I have posted many photos of the event in the Photo Gallery. If anyone took pictures at the event and would like to have them added to the gallery, please email them to the Webmaster.

2010 Event Results:

bulletBeginner Event - Pad Hop -- This is a timed event. There will be 4 landing pads arranged in a square. The time will start when the helicopter takes off. The pilot will take-off from the first pad and land on the remaining 3 pads. The time will stop when the helicopter touches down in the last landing pad. The time will be recorded. The pilot will then perform the same maneuvers, landing on the pads in the reverse order - again the flight will be timed. The pilot with the shortest time differential between the two sequences will win. The pilot may not use a timer, watch, or other time keeping device during the competition.
Event Results:
First Place - Lance Waldman 0.40 sec
Second Place - Bob Clay 1.08 sec
Third Place - Chris Doerr 1.81 sec
bulletIntermediate Event - Heli Rodeo -- This is a timed event. The pilot will place his helicopter (with fuel tank full), transmitter, and any necessary starting equipment in the Heli Start Box. The pilot must stand in the Pilot Start Box, located approximately 50 feet from the Heli Start Box. At the start signal, the timer will begin. The pilot will run to the Heli Start Box, start the helicopter, take-off, fly past the pylon in the field, land the helicopter back in the Heli Start Box, and run back to the Pilot Start Box, at which point the timer will stop. The pilot who scores the lowest elapsed time wins.
Event Results:
First Place - Chris Saltsman 1 min 13.5 sec
Second Place - Mark Stewart 1 min 23.2 sec
Third Place - Patrick Vestal 1 min 28 sec
bulletExpert Event - Autorotation Contest -- The pilot will perform an autorotation, to a precision landing. The pilot with the shortest distance from the X to the helicopter mainshaft will win. The best 2 out of 3 autos will count, and the shortest total distance from the best 2 autos will determine the winner.
Event Results:
First Place - Dr. Bob Motazedi 8.25 inches
Second Place - Eric Balay 19.5 inches
