9th Annual Jefco Aeromod'lers Helicopter Fun Fly

The 9th Annual Jefco Helicopter Day will be held May 9, 2009, at Chatfield Reservoir Colorado State Park. The Jefco AeroMod'lers present their world-class RC Flying Field for this special event. Landing donation for the event is $20.00 for non-members, only $10.00 for Jefco AeroMod'lers or Colorado Rotor-Heads members. A FREE Lunch will be provided for all registered participants. Pilot check-in begins at 8:30 AM (the field will be open at 7:00 AM for flying). There will be plenty of door prizes in our drawing. There will be open flying throughout the day, plus fun fly style events until 5:00 PM. The 2008 event was our most popular attendance yet, with 47 pilots, 100+ spectators and 80+ helicopters on display. Helicopter pilots of any skill level and spectators are welcome to attend. AMA membership is required for all pilots. We hope to see you there!
2009 Events will include:
 | Beginner Event - Pad Hop -- Starts at 10:00AM -- This is a timed event. There will be 4 landing pads approximately 20 feet apart, arranged in a square. The time will start when the helicopter takes off. The pilot will take-off from the first pad and land on the remaining 3 pads. The time will stop when the helicopter touches down in the last landing pad. The time will be recorded. The pilot will then perform the same maneuvers, landing on the pads in the reverse order - again the flight will be timed. The pilot with the shortest time differential between the two sequences will win. The pilot may not use a timer, watch, or other time keeping device during the competition. |
| Intermediate Event - Heli Rodeo -- Starts at 11:00AM -- This is a timed event. The pilot will place his helicopter (with fuel tank empty), transmitter, fuel and any necessary starting equipment in the Heli Start Box. The pilot must stand in the Pilot Start Box, located approximately 50 feet from the Heli Start Box. At the start signal, the timer will begin. The pilot will run to the Heli Start Box, fuel and start the helicopter, take-off, fly past the pylon in the field, land the helicopter back in the Heli Start Box, shutdown the engine, and run back to the Pilot Start Box, at which point the timer will stop. The pilot who scores the lowest elapsed time wins. If there are enough entrants with electric powered helicopters, a second class will be run for electrics. If Electrics and Nitro/fuel powered helis are run together in the same class, Electric powered helicopters will incur a 30 second penalty. |
| Expert Event - Autorotation Contest -- Starts at 1:00PM -- The pilot will perform an autorotation, to a precision landing. The pilot with the shortest distance from the X to the helicopter mainshaft will win. The best 2 out of 3 autos will count, and the shortest total distance from the best 2 autos will determine the winner. |
| Drag Racing -- Starts at 2:00PM -- This event will start in two starting boxes on the north/south runway. The helicopters will fly parallel to the east/west runway, to the finish line at the far west end of the E/W runway. Through single-elimination, the fastest helicopter wins. |

Home of the Jefco AeroMod'lers RC Club (an AMA Approved flying field) - From Denver, take Wadsworth Blvd. (Colorado Highway 121) south past highway C-470, and turn left (at the second light south of C-470 - about one mile) into the Park at the Deer Creek entrance. As an alternate route, take Santa Fe Blvd. south to Titan Road, turn west on Titan Road to Roxborough Park Road, and turn north to the Plum Creek entrance of the State Park. Follow the park map to the flying field, which is located on the southeast side of the lake.
