8th Annual Jefco Aeromod'lers Helicopter Fun Fly

The Jefco AeroMod'lers and Colorado Rotor-Heads 8th annual Heli Fun Fly on May 17th 2008 was a great success, with a record 47 pilots bringing nearly 120 helicopters! The weather was picture perfect, and everyone had a fun time. We offered 4 exciting events this year, Pad Hop, Bottle Knock-Over, Autorotation Contest, and Drag Racing. I'd like to thank our sponsors and everyone in the club for their efforts in making this year's event fun and exciting for all. We had a great turn out, with an amazing array of models. Please also remember to support our event sponsors who graciously donated items for our raffle and event prizes. I have posted all of my photos of the event in the Photo Gallery. 2008 Event Results:
 | Beginner Event - Pad Hop -- 9:30AM -- This is a timed event. There will be 4 landing pads arranged in a square. The time will start, the pilot will take-off from one pad and land on the remaining 3 pads. The time will stop. The pilot will then perform the same maneuver, landing on the pads in the reverse order - again the flight will be timed. The pilot with the shortest time differential between the two sequences will win. The pilot may not use a timer, watch, or other time keeping device.
Event Results:
First Place - Jeremiah Krupa 0.16 seconds
Second Place - Jack Patton 0.56 seconds
Third Place - Jeremy Conger 1.04 seconds |
| Intermediate Event - Bottle Knock-Over -- 10:30AM -- This is a timed event. The pilot will knock over a set of bottles in a race against the clock. The timer will start as soon as the pilot takes off. If after take-off any part of the helicopter touches the ground before successfully knocking over the bottles, then that pilot is disqualified. Lowest elapsed time wins.

First Place - David Operchal 32.94 seconds
Second Place - Steve Rose 51.47 seconds
Third Place - Jack Patton 1:07.18 minutes |
| Expert Event - Autorotation Contest -- 11:30AM -- The pilot will perform an autorotation, to a precision landing. The pilot with the shortest distance from the X to the helicopter mainshaft will win. The best 2 out of 3 autos will count, and the shortest total distance from the best 2 autos will determine the winner.

First Place - Eric Balay 10.5 inches
Second Place - David Operchal 14.75 inches
Third Place - Dr. Bob Motazedi 24.25 inches |
| Drag Racing -- 1:30PM -- This event will start in two starting boxes on the north/south runway. The helicopters will fly parallel to the east/west runway, to the finish line at the far west end of the E/W runway. Through single-elimination, the fastest helicopter wins.
